Garda invade commemoration
Today Republicans in Co Monaghan witnessed once again the bullyboy tactics of the Gardaí. Sinn Féin Pobhlactach were holding our annual Fergal Ó Hanlon commemoration in Monaghan town today. Because of the high levels of covid infection within the county we cut it back to a small dignified march from Monaghan Cathedral led by a small colour party and piper. Other republicans from the nearby Matt Fitzpatrick Society in Newtownbutler Co Fermanagh joined along in the march. As the march had turned up the road from the junction towards lattlurcan cemetery members of the Special detective unit backed up by the Garda armed support unit and local Garda stormed in on the marchers dragging a young man from South Armagh across the road. Young children and mothers were left terrified by what was unfolding. The Garda accused the young man of giving a false name when in fact he gave it in gaelic. It took a total of 9 garda to subdue the young man and physically force him into the back of a garda car before being taken to Monaghan garda station to be questioned an then subsequently released. The march proceeded to Latlurcan cemetery were Fermanagh republican John Joe MC Cusker chaired events and introduced Tyrone Republican Martin Kelly to give the graveside oration. Wreaths where laid by Martin Duffy on behalf of Sinn Féin Poblachtach and John Connolly on behalf of the Republican Movement. John MC Cusker then asked the crowd to walk the short distance to the grave of former Sinn Féin poblactach member and Volunteer Sean Moore where a wreath was laid on his grave by John Joe Mc Cusker on behalf of the Republican Movement. Martin Duffy said a few words and the piper played Amhrán na bhFiann and the crowd then dispersed. Críoch
